Middle Years Program (MYP)
WHAT IS THE MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAM?
The Middle Years Program (MYP) is one of three programs offered by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). It is a program that helps students participate actively and responsibly in a changing and increasingly interrelated world. Learning how to learn and how to evaluate information critically is as important as learning facts. The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (MYP) is internationally recognized and is designed for students age 11 through 16.
Roberto Clemente Middle School is offering years 1 through 3 of the MYP.
WHAT DOES THE CURRICULUM CONTAIN?
The curriculum contains eight subject groups together with a core made up of the IB Learner Profile, IB concepts, Approaches to learning and Global Context. The subjects include Language and Literature (student's first language), Language Acquisition (second language study), Individuals and Society (Social Studies), Mathematics, Science, Design Technology, Physical Education (including Health and Wellness), and Art (Visual and Performing).

HOW DOES THE STUDENT APPLY?
The MYP program will be a "school within a school" model. Students zoned for Roberto Clemente Middle School will be eligible for participation in the program if they have demonstrated a strong academic commitment during middle school. It is the desire of the school to infiltrate the "models" of MYP throughout the school but students participating in the MYP teams will need to take all seven periods involved with the MYP components.
