The Science Department at Jackson Middle School seeks to help students develop their ability to think scientifically and seek understanding of scientific concepts. The ability to think scientifically is an essential skill that our students will need to succeed in their everyday lives. Inside the classroom, science is taught through inquiry investigations in which students use scientific reasoning and critical thinking to develop understanding of scientific concepts. Our teachers are not dispensers of knowledge, but rather facilitators in the process of helping students discover knowledge for themselves. Our science teachers and administrators are committed to steering our students toward careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. More than anything, we want our students to increase their self-efficacy in the area of science in hopes that they will come to love science and ultimately pursue science-related careers.
